[Editorial] The Weight of Decision: A CEO Is Built to Decide

Individuals constantly evolve within the living organism of an enterprise. While a new employee begins by internalizing organizational order and rhythm, an assistant manager acts at the cutting edge of practical execution, and a manager/deputy director fills organizational gaps through accumulated experience. Reaching the trajectory of a team leader, one is trained in leadership that maximizes collective productivity through precise work allocation and conflict mediation. And finally, upon entering the ranks of executives, one coordinates inter-departmental interests and begins to build the high-level strategic muscle of 'Decision'.
- Entry-Level: Internalizing organizational systems and corporate mechanics
- Assistant Manager: Hands-on execution and supporting senior operations
- Manager / Deputy Director: Bridging operational gaps with accumulated experience
- Team Leader: Resource allocation and conflict resolution for peak team output
- Executive: Aligning departmental interests, auditing additional risks, and making primary decisions
- CEO: Shouldering full uncertainty and making the final bets that determine company destiny
At the apex of this long journey stands the CEO. Yet, a sober truth must be acknowledged: the CEO is not a seat for study, training, or practiceโit is the ultimate destination where one must prove their existence solely through results.
There is no such thing as a risk-free business plan or a flawless contract in this world. Every enterprise is engineered by imperfect human beings and finalized through mutual concessions and compromises amidst sharp conflicts of interest.
Even in an era where hyper-intelligent AI commands the forefront of business operations, this fundamental premise remains unchanged. AI merely provides the optimal theoretical solution tailored to each party's individual perspective. If both sides rigidly adhere only to the immaculate recommendations of their respective AI engines, no transaction in the world will ever close. Bridging the divide between theoretical ideals and cold business reality to forge a breakthrough is not the domain of an algorithm, but the product of human insight and decisive judgment.
The reports presented on the frontlines of management consistently carry both plausible opportunities and lethal hazards. While mitigating and circumventing risk may belong to the duties of managers, the decision to put the company's destiny on the line to boldly shoulder that risk (Risk-taking) or to walk away remains the exclusive prerogative of the CEO.
Out of countless strategic calls, nine out of ten may end in bitter trial and error. Yet, as history attests, a single decisive bet made through the dense fog of uncertainty can elevate an ordinary firm into the ranks of world-class excellence.
